I've just finished longboarding around Dubuque tonight with a close friend of mine here in town. I've come to find I truly enjoy conversations under the stars; the expanse of the Milky Way is one of those comforting gifts from the natural world, which is exactly the type of pleasure I have the intentions of focusing on in this life I hope to build with the help of and collaboration with Chris and Shruti. Longboarding itself is another true enjoyment of mine- and one hobby I find to be much more simple and sustainable than those which a typical, "successful" life nowadays consists of...
Looking around at who I'm surrounded by in this society (my family, community, and peers, etc.), I've been noticing more and more consumption and wastefulness in their daily, monthly, yearly, and lifelong activity. I'd like to place an importance on sustainability, be it in environmental, monetary, or spiritual matters. I'd like to consider quality over quantity; strive to be a part of a sort of system in which my choices aren't mainly decided by unfulfilling social expectations nor harmful traditions.
I'll elaborate with more thorough/clear explanations as the next couple of weeks unfold, I just wanted to get a post out there to keep the ball rolling!

Space and Time
After living and studying in the Virgin Islands for three years, and then briefly pursuing an Environmental Engineering B.S.at the University of Columbia, my wife and I have decided that the typical mode of American life just isn't for us. We're venturing to leave behind the career centered routine for a life focused on nature, friends, family, and exploration.
It does not take a full time job to provide our basic needs of food shelter and clothing. I believe that through living an environmentally conscious lifestyle, where we take only what we need, the environment will naturally provide an abundance. In owning my our own land, home, source of electricity, and water we will have eliminated the need for a full time job. In endeavoring to provide for ourselves as naturally as possible and to reduce our waste, we will in-turn reduce our need to solve all of our problems with money. The time that is made available by drastically reducing our monthly bills will provide the most valuable commodity of all, time it's self.
I plan to allow the time in my life to create space. Space to dream up new plans of travel and entrepreneurship, space to hike the mountains of Colorado and sleep under the stars, but fundamentally space for its own sake.
So come with us as we conduct our experiment, follow us as our journeys unfold, and find out what happens as we carve our own paths in life.
